After the August visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Beijing, Iran and China agreed to add many projects to the 25-year bilateral program signed in 2016. Notably,

According to the Petroleum Economist news site, the main pillar of the new agreement is that China will invest $280 billion to develop Iran’s oil, gas and petrochemical sectors.

Russia and arms deals

During a press conference on September 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin jokingly told Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that he was ready to support Saudi Arabia after the attack on oil facilities.

In 2018, Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan – five countries bordering the Caspian Sea – agreed to sign the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
