(Dan Tri) – Participating in both the television version and the film adaptation of the novel `Southern Forest Land` (author Doan Gioi), artist Trung Dan shares frankly about these two works.

After there was information that actor Tuan Tran played Ut Luc Lam in the movie `Southern Forest Land` (film version directed by Nguyen Quang Dung), many viewers mentioned artist Trung Dan because he was very successful with

– I don’t know why director Vincent chose me.

When I read the script, I liked it so I just acted.

Artist Trung Dan shares his `bloodshed` memories while filming the movie `Southern Land` (Performer: Nga Trinh – Cao Bach).

What memories of filming `Southern Land` do you still remember now?

– I remember the time when I was with the film crew Southern Land, there were times when I had to lie under a mosquito net, wade through the forest, and wade through arduous water.

I went to film Southern Land for more than half a month, following the film crew around the southern provinces such as Can Tho, Tien Giang… then returned to District 9 (now Thu Duc City – Reporter) to continue filming.

When filming `Southern Land`, did you think this would be a `lifetime` movie?

– When filming a movie, I never thought it would resonate with the audience.

At that time, there were no phones or taking pictures. They just hugged, held hands, laughed, talked, and asked me questions.

After that time, I went back to read the novel Southern Forest Land by writer Doan Gioi.

After decades of filming and taking on countless roles, what does the role of Ut Luc Lam in particular and the movie `Southern Land` in general mean in your career?

– When I was 23-24 years old, I was able to play the role of Ut Luc Lam and working with a skilled director like director Vincent Son was my luck in the early stages of pursuing art.

Director Vincent Son is very enthusiastic and understands Vietnamese culture in general and Southern culture in particular.

Actually, in the past, people loved me so they just encouraged me.

Now, when I look back at my role, I think about why I acted like that in the past, and then think about why I acted like that and the audience liked it (laughs).

Set in the movie `Southern Land` in a `sacred forest and poisonous water`, what obstacles and dangers does Trung Dan encounter?

– At that time, movies were shot with only one camera, so scenes had to be divided into many segments.

However, there were also many nails in the drum, and the collision caused me many injuries.

Filming for months, how is the relationship between Trung Dan and the actors in the film?

– In the movie, Hung Thuan and I (playing An – PV) had many fun interaction scenes.

Recently I also visited Uncle Mac Can and saw that his health had declined a lot.

Once again appearing in the film adapted from the novel `Southern Forest Land`, but how does artist Trung Dan feel about playing the role of Mr. Ba Sang, the pawn shop owner?

– Actually, this is a film adapted from a famous Vietnamese literary work, so I really appreciate it. Whether it’s good or bad, I’ll decide later.

We must encourage the adaptation of valuable literary works into films.

The audience is worried that Tuan Tran is still young and will have difficulty overcoming Trung Dan’s shadow when portraying the role of Ut Luc Lam.

– Maybe everyone favors me and that’s why they say that, but in the past I acted normally, there’s nothing that can be called a `shadow` that’s too big.

However, I acted with him in a scene in the movie.

Tuan Tran often asked questions, frankly asking me to practice my lines or re-write them if I was not satisfied with the combination of the two. He was the one who actively sought me out to discuss the role.

It’s not because he `hunts` me that I like him.

What message did you give to Tuan Tran when taking on the role of Ut Luc Lam?

– Because I didn’t have time, I couldn’t talk much with him.

When the setting of the movie `Southern Forest Land` was announced, some viewers thought that creating a fake antique setting would be difficult to convince and would not bring emotions like in novels and TV dramas of the past.

– Talking about the context, the film crew of Southern Forest Land has advanced, modern machinery and very majestic construction.

I myself – both as an audience and as an actor participating in a scene in the movie – have my own feelings about every detail of the scene.

To the South, this place was originally a place where melaleuca and mangrove trees grew in abundance.

As for canoes, each era’s materials and designs will be different, so it’s very difficult to find the exact canoe from the past.

What advice does Trung Dan have for the director and producer when participating in `Southern Forest Land`?

– When making a film about a topic related to history, it must be depicted accurately and accurately as much as possible.

Making art must be done properly, because we do it not only for ourselves, but also for our children and grandchildren, for the next generation.

Thank you for sharing by artist Trung Dan!
