On June 27, Mr. Donald Trump sued Ms. E. Jean Carroll for defamation, after a Manhattan court jury (New York) on May 9 ruled that the former US President had sexually abused and defamed her.

Ms. Carroll, 79 years old, filed a lawsuit against Mr. Trump last October, accusing the former White House owner of raping her in the dressing room in 1995 and 1996.

After questioning the parties and questioning witnesses, the jury last month said that there was no evidence that Mr. Trump raped the female journalist, but he was responsible for sexually abusing and defaming Ms. Carroll.

In the counter-lawsuit, Mr. Trump accused Ms. Carroll of defaming him after she appeared on a CNN program.

Regarding the countersuit, Ms. Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, said: `Mr. Trump once again argues, contrary to both logic and reality, that he was found by a jury to have committed abuse.`

Ms. Kaplan emphasized: `Mr. Trump’s lawsuit is his latest effort to delay accountability for what a jury has found to be his defamation of Ms. E. Jean Carroll. But

Mr. Trump’s counter-lawsuit is the latest development in the years-long legal battle between the former US President and Ms. Carroll.

Ms. Carroll first sued Mr. Trump for defamation in 2019 after he denied accusations that he raped her in the mid-1990s. Mr. Trump said he did not know who Carroll was and that she was not his type.

Mr. Trump has continuously encountered legal troubles since announcing his re-election bid for US President in 2024. In April, he was indicted on 34 charges following an investigation into suspicions that he paid hush money to a porn star.

On June 9, US Department of Justice prosecutors announced a 49-page indictment, indicting former President Donald Trump on 37 counts related to allegations of misconduct in handling classified documents and obstruction.

Despite unfavorable developments, Mr. Trump still receives support from voters and is still one of the brightest candidates for the Republican Party in the 2024 presidential election. He still earns millions of dollars more.
